Thiruvanathapuram,
also known as
Trivandrum
located at the South Western coast of the India, the Capital City of Kerala
still remains its regal ambience with a number of colonial and traditional
buildings. This beautiful seaside city built on seven hills.
The city derives its name from the deity at the Sree Anantha
Padmanabhaswami Temple, one of the major landmarks of the place. The name of
the city is derived from the words Thiru-Anantha-Puram,
means the abode of the sacred snake-god Ananthan,
on whom Vishnu, the God of Preservation, is believed to be reclining.
Thiruvananthapuram is the second largest populated district in Kerala. The
Metropolitan Engineering Company, Travancore Titanium Products, Kerala
Automobiles, Hindustan Latex, English India Clay Ltd, Vikram Sarabhai Space
Center, Central Tuber Crops Research Institute, Thumba Equatorial Rocket
Launching Station, Tropical Bottanical Garden and Research Institute and
Sree Chithira Medical Center are situated in the district. The city has good
shopping areas and a variety of comfortable and reasonably priced hotels.
A long shoreline, with internationally renowned beaches, historic monuments,
backwater stretches and a rich cultural heritage makes this district a much
sought after tourist destination.
