THOMMANKUTHU
Thommankuthu is one of the most nature
rich areas of kerala. It is an ideal place of adventure tourism,
trekking and picnic.Come and see the rocks ,mountain and a dip
in the crystal clear water of
Kannady
River, coming from the mineral springs of sahyan ranges.
The
water that comes from the springs of the mountain ranges flows
to the Kannadypuzha through the rocks and sands peeps into the
naturally formed caves surrounded by sculptured rocks.
Wide flowing water of Kannady river
spreads over a large plain rock and
narrows down into the form of a steep waterfall into a deep
reservoir.Besides the waterfall there is tall rock called
Kurangan Para (Monkey Rock). If you climb to the top ,you can
see the setting Sun.
PLAPOTHU
CAVE
It is a large and wide natural rock cave
capable of accommodating about 30 people at a time. A Jackfruit
tree of 200 years of old can be seen near the cave.
AN ANCIENT DAM
At the top of wide and large rock of
Thommankuthu waterfalls,you can see the incomplete Dam, which
was constructued during the Thiruvithancore Dynasty .
From
the Thommankuthu waterfall a kilometer you have to truck through
forests and rocky
shore of
Kannadypuzha to get a glimpse of beautiful cascade of Ezhunilakuthu (Ezhunila
Waterfall). A small lake is formed where people swin under the
milky white spray and shower.There are about fourteen waterfalls
in this part of Kannadypuzha.
LEGENDS ON THOMMANKUTHU
On the Adappan mountain, once lived a
ruled by the tribal leader called Thomban. One rainy evening he
was crossing the river. A sudden flood carried him to the
waterfall was known as Thombankuthu. This Thombankuthu was
gradually transformed into Thommankuthu.(Kuthu means
waterfalls).
MALANKARA DAM
Six kms. From Thodupuzha on the
Thodupuzha – Moolamattom road. Malankara is one of the beautiful
irrigation project in the District and an ideal spot for fishing
and boating.
ILAVEEZHAPOONCHIRA
Ilaveezhapoonchira is a hilly hamlet near
kanjar,about 15 kms. from Thodupuzha,which is fast emerging as a
major tourist destination.Surrounded by three enchanting
hillocks – Mankunnu, Kudayathoormala and Thonippara. This place
is ideal for trekking.
NADUKANI
The pavilion here presents a bird’s eye
view of Moolamattom town, Malankara lake and near by
places.
